One of the World’s Great Gardens
Powerscourt Estate is a Palladian mansion with 47 acres of formal gardens in Enniskerry, County Wicklow — approximately 20 kilometres south of Dublin (30–40 minutes by road). The gardens, originally designed in the 18th century and restored in the 20th, have been ranked among the finest in the world. They include Italian and Japanese gardens, a walled garden, a pet cemetery, a tower, a lake, and views of the Great Sugarloaf mountain. Powerscourt Waterfall (Ireland’s highest at 121 metres) is in the adjacent deer park, a separate entry.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Powerscourt from Dublin?
Approximately 20 kilometres, 30–40 minutes by road. It is often combined with Glendalough on a Wicklow day tour.
Is the house open to visitors?
The house interior is partially open (ground floor and exhibitions). A fire in 1974 destroyed much of the interior, which has been partially restored. The gardens are the main attraction.
How long should I spend at Powerscourt?
Allow 2–3 hours for the gardens and grounds. The waterfall (a short drive from the main estate) adds 1 hour.
